Dopamine, often referred to as the reward center for the brain, is responsible for giving us the energy and enthusiasm we want to be vibrant and productive.

Some people, however, do not produce enough dopamine and as a result, feel lethargic and have low mood.

So, on today’s show, I want to go over how this neurotransmitter functions in the body and what you need to ensure it is working properly for you.

Show Highlights & Big Takeaways:

1. Tyrosine

In order to increase dopamine levels your body needs Tyrosine. But it is not as simple as just adding a supplement.  In order for Tyrosine to convert to L-Dopa (and eventually dopamine) you also need to have an adequate supply of Vitamin B6, Folate, and Iron.

2. L-Dopa

Once Tyrosine has converted to L-dopa it will also need Vitamin B6 and Magnesium to convert to dopamine.  Additionally, the body will need Vitamin C and Copper in order to produce norepinephrine.

3. Foundational Nutrients

It is important that your body has all the foundational nutrients it needs. The processes of the body are complex and relay on a variety of nutrients working in conjunction to achieve a goal.
