When deciding how long your intermittent fast should be it’s important to ask yourself why are you fasting for more than 12 hours in the first place. Most people’s goal is to boost metabolism – not slow it. Interestingly, more and more research is showing that by chronically skipping breakfast you were actually slowing your metabolic rate over time.

It may make sense when you first think about it that by skipping breakfast you would be able to better regulate your blood sugar since it should cause a decrease, however, good scientific research is actually showing the opposite. The more stress you put on your body the more dysregulated your blood sugar becomes and fasting when overdone does become a large stressor on the body.
