When you continue a low-carb diet for a longer period of time it can cause stress on the body and create more cortisol. Over time this can result in breaking down muscle tissue, weakening metabolism, using up the body’s mineral storage reserves, and also affecting thyroid production.

We use low-carb diets in our practice but for a limited time. Low-carb diets work better on a cyclical basis and work best when you have a plan to add carbs back in and address underlying issues.
