WW: The Harvard Diet Is Being Touted Now as the Gold Standard

It’s been about 12 years, but the Harvard Diet is back in the news again…

This diet was originally formulated as a way to find the best diet to help combat cardiovascular issues, type-2 diabetes, and cancer.

We are now beginning to see it pop back up again as more and more people dive into the world of longevity and anti-aging.

On today’s show, I want to dig into this a little more and give you my take on the pros and cons, and also shed some light as to what I think can be done to improve it.

Join me on today’s #CabralConcept 2637 to find out why the Harvard Diet is being touted now as the gold standard – Enjoy the show and let me know what you thought!

Show Highlights & Big Takeaways

1. What is The Harvard Diet

The Harvard Diet was created by researchers at Harvard University. It was established as a guide to provide the most nutritious and beneficial meal plan to help prevent some of the most common diseases.

2. What Does the Harvard Diet Include

The Harvard Diet consists of meals that are made up of 50% fruits & vegetables, 25% whole grains, and 25% healthy proteins. It also adds in healthy oil in moderation and emphasizes the importance of 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week.

3. How We Can Improve

I think the Harvard Diet provides a great baseline for many people, especially those who are coming from a mostly processed diet. However, one thing I would begin to move people away from is combining fruit with their meals. I would also look to decrease the amount of animal protein intake by limiting it to 1-2 meals per day instead of 3. This would help with IGF-1, mTor, and AMPK balance which would be more optimal for longevity outcomes.
