While low-carb and keto-style diets may offer short-term results for weight loss and body transformation, the latest research shows that these approaches can come with serious long-term health consequences.

In this episode, I want to break down two major studies that shed light on the potential dangers of restricting carbs for too long—and what balanced eating really looks like for longevity.

1. Research #1

A large study followed 43,396 Swedish women over a 15.7-year period to assess the long-term health impacts of low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets. The study found that women who consumed the lowest amount of carbohydrates and the highest levels of protein had a 22% increased risk of all-cause mortality compared to those who followed more balanced diets.

2. Research #2

A global study looked at dietary habits over nearly three decades and found that the biggest diet-related health risks came from not eating enough whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Additionally, consuming too much salt, red and processed meat, and sugary drinks also raised the risk of early death. 

3. Finding Balance

While it’s essential to consider this research, it’s equally important to recognize that nutrition should be tailored to the individual—taking into account body type, activity level, and personal health goals. Low-carb protocols can be useful for short-term body transformation, but when followed long-term without proper balance from fiber, fruits, and vegetables, they may contribute to serious health concerns. Ultimately, a personalized and balanced approach to nutrition is key for achieving both short-term results and long-term wellness.
