3149: Are These Better Indicators of Health than BMI?

TT: Are These Better Indicators of Health than BMI?

BMI is a widely debated topic when it comes to health and fitness – some people swear by it while others dismiss its significance…

While it’s important to understand your BMI and recognize that a higher number can put extra stress on your body, I don’t believe it’s the ultimate measure of your health.

On today’s show, I want to discuss additional (and possibly much more important) factors you shouldn’t overlook and the specific measurements you should be paying attention to.

So, join me on today’s Cabral Concept 3149, where we’ll explore 3 alternative indicators you can use instead of BMI to assess your overall health.

Show Highlights & Big Takeaways:

1. Body Fat Percentage

To measure body fat, use a 3-point caliper measuring system. For men, a body fat percentage above 25% is considered high, with the healthiest range being between 14-18%. For women, a body fat percentage above 32% is considered high, with the average range being 25-31%, and the ideal range between 20-24%.

2. Waist-Hip Ratio

Use a piece of string or a flexible tape measure to measure around your waist, then measure around your hips. Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. For men, a healthy ratio is 0.9 or lower, and for women, it’s 0.85 or lower.

3. Resting Heart Rate

The optimal range for a resting heart rate is between 50 and 80 beats per minute. When your heart rate exceeds 80, it can place additional stress on your body and may indicate a potential health issue.
