New guidelines no longer recommend routine testing for vitamin D levels during annual physicals. This is controversial since vitamin D plays a role in over 300 disease-related pathways and is linked to inflammation, neurological conditions, cardiovascular issues, and more.

While current guidelines may not suggest routine testing, in our practice, we believe it's important to know your vitamin D levels to truly support your health. The standard recommendation is just 600 IUs daily up to age 70, but we consider that to be the bare minimum but not enough to optimize health or strengthen immunity. Based on individual needs, we typically recommend 4,000–5,000 IUs daily for optimal support.
