1. Hormonal Imbalances & Belly Fat

Fat can accumulate anywhere in the body, but imbalanced hormones—especially elevated cortisol—can lead to stubborn belly fat. Losing weight isn’t just about calories in versus calories out; extreme calorie or carbohydrate restriction can slow metabolism and promote fat storage.

2. The Role of Cortisol

While cortisol is essential, excessive levels due to stress (both external and internal) can disrupt metabolic processes. High cortisol inhibits thyroid function, slowing metabolism, and increases lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that promotes belly fat storage.

3. Thyroid & Belly Fat

When thyroid function is impaired, metabolism slows down, making it harder to burn fat. Low thyroid hormone levels can also lead to increased fatigue, cravings, and a higher likelihood of storing excess fat, particularly in the belly area.
