1. What Are the Symptoms of Too Much Protein:

Symptoms of excessive protein intake include disorientation, memory loss, mood swings, brain fog, lethargy, muscle weakness, nausea, slurred speech, and shortness of breath. When looking at lab results, elevated ammonia levels can be a sign of too much protein in the diet and/or gut imbalances.

2. What Is Considered Too Low:

Consuming less than 0.8g of protein per kg of body weight, or less than half your body weight in grams per day, is generally considered too low. If you weight train, you’ll likely need more.

3. How to Maintain Protein Intake with High Ammonia:

First, address gut health. In the meantime, focus on a combination of plant-based proteins and lean animal proteins (like white meat chicken or turkey, which are lower in saturated fat). Once gut health improves, you can reintroduce other protein sources.
