Enjoying a cup of coffee can also provide brain-boosting properties, act as an appetite suppressant, and increase athletic performance.

Coffee has great health benefits but unfortunately for some, it can also lead to jitters, headaches, and an afternoon crash.

Thankfully there is an easy way that we can enhance our coffee by reducing the negative aspects while still enjoying all the great properties it has to offer.

1. What is L-theanine

L-theanine is an amino acid that is found in black and green tea and rare mushroom. It has been proven to decrease excitatory neurotransmitters in the brain and increase other neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and GABA.

2. Adding L-theanine to Coffee

Studies show that adding 100mg of L-theanine to a small cup of coffee helped people improve the ability to move between tasks, better reaction time, increased alertness, improved memory, and fewer headaches.

3. How Much L-theanine Do You Need

If your coffee is in the normal range of 150-180mg of caffeine try starting with adding 50-100mg of L-theanine.  Continue to move up by 50mg until you reach the desired effect.
