Is Going Gluten-Free Good for You?

September 24, 2011 by Stephen Cabral

It’s amazing how big manufacturing companies can take a good, healthy idea and completely make it bad for us… and at the same time cover it up.

Here’s what I mean:

Going gluten-free seems to be all the rage now (or at least the trend is on the rise). What it involves is eliminating any ingredients derived from gluten-containing substances, such as wheat, kamut, spelt, barley, rye, and triticale.

If you’re truly going gluten free I would also eliminate most condiment sauces since they use a gluten based extract to thicken the liquid. I would also advise taking out oats since they have been most likely contaminated with wheat based products as they are being processed in the factory. Although if you can find a whole oat product that certifies it is gluten free than it may be fine.

Also, here are a few other little known substances that may contain gluten:

*Ketchup
*Ice cream
*Toothpaste
*Lip balms
*Beer
*Spirits (except some tequila, rum, and vodka brands made from potatoes, rice, etc)

So basically you’re trying to eliminate all the gluten products that may cause inflammation in your body.

What you can substitute for those gluten based foods are rice, sweet potatoes, millet, quinoa, yams, chia seeds, etc.

So far everything sounds pretty healthy, but here’s where the deception begins.

Since most mass manufacturers and big name brands want to capitalize on any health food trend, they need to find a way to compete and compete VERY CHEAPLY.

So what they do is fill their “gluten-free” labeled products with one of the cheapest and unhealthiest food fillers they can produce.

Can you guess what they use?

It’s already being fed to the animals we get our meat, eggs, milk, dairy, and pretty much every other product except fruits and vegetables from.

It’s corn.

The main ingredient that manufacturers are filling gluten-free products with is corn… which as we know is inflammatory and it’s showing up everywhere we turn.

Why do they do this, you ask?

Corn is easy and very inexpensive to mass produce and can be added to pretty much any food to create substance.

This is why I recommend anyone who is going gluten free to just stay clear of most boxed or bagged foods, or at the very least check the label on the back for the presence of corn.

Hopefully, this article was helpful in making informed decisions that will keep you and your family healthy!
