2476: The History of Low-Carb Diets

WW: The History of Low-Carb Diets

Did you know the low-carb diet dates back to 776 B.C.?

This way of eating has been around for centuries and continues to resurface again and again with a different name and slightly different take.

One thing that remains the same, however, the low-carb diet is a trend that while successful in the short term, may cause health issues when taken too far…

So on today’s #CabralConcept 2476, I want to go over the history of low-carb diets, why they started, and what modern-day science says about them – Enjoy the show and let me know if you have any questions!

Show Highlights & Big Takeaways:

1. History

The Low Carb Diet has a long-standing history dating back to Greek Olympic athletes. Most of the diets throughout history are very similar at their core but are made popular with unique marketing efforts.

2. Present Day

Today’s version of the Low Carb Diet is the Carnivore diet. I caution you to be careful when following the dieting trends as it can be very stressful on the body and generally does not solve the health issues you are trying to fix.

3. My Take

There is nothing wrong with a low-carb diet, in fact, we use a 3-week lower-carb diet in my practice.  The low-carb diet becomes an issue when you use it as a quick fix with no long-term plan. The low-carb diet is not sustainable for long term, and it is important to understand what you are transitioning too once you are finished with the low-carb diet.
