Check out this powerful Russian abs exercise video I have for you today!
It’s called a “Double Get-Up” or Russian Double Get-Up and it’s often done with
kettlebells held in each hand.
However, since not everyone owns a pair of kettlebells and because kettlebells
typically start at higher weights I’m going to show you how you can do this
amazing abs exercise with just a pair of dumbbells.
Plus, a lot of my clients “love to hate” this exercise because it’s so
challenging and that’s why I think you’ll really enjoy it too!
Another great component of this particular Russian Double Get-Up is that you
only have to complete 8-15 repetitions which means you have less repetitive
flexing of your spine (making it a safer way to do crunches or ab work).
Remember to also keep in mind that any ab exercise that asks you to do more
than 30 repetitions usually isn’t as effective since they place less tension
on your abs during the movement.
The moral of the story is that less reps is usually more when it comes to
working your abs!
Now let’s get into how to complete the Russian Double Get-Up:
Lie outstretched on your back
Hold 2 dumbbells directly above your shoulders and chest
Flex and engage your entire core and abs while lifting your upper body up
straight until it is perpendicular to the floor
Slowly decelerate your upper body down to the floor
Repeat the process for 8-15 repetitions
Also, here are some important tips to remember:
1. Always look up at the dumbbells the whole set
2. Point the dumbbells and your arms straight up to the ceiling the entire time
3. Do not round your neck or back
4. Breathe out on the way up
5. Breathe in on the way down or at the bottom
6. If you feel any pain stop immediately
