Today, I’m sharing the resources I’ve used over the past year to overcome chronic neck pain—often called “nerd neck” or “tech neck”—by creating a healthier desk setup.

1. What Was Causing My Neck Pain

Cervical flexion, sometimes called “nerd neck” or “tech neck,” is the forward tilting of the head, often from looking down at screens or books. Sitting at my desk for long stretches gradually took its toll—there wasn’t a single injury that caused it. With all the research, reading, and writing I do, I often catch myself leaning forward with my chin jutting out toward the monitor, which has contributed to the issue.

2. How I Fixed it

I started by focusing on my posture with band exercises, stretching, and posture straps, but they only provided temporary relief. The real change came when I reduced the amount of time I spent sitting. I began my days with morning walks, either outside or on my walking treadmill, and transitioned to using my standing desk. I stood for most of the morning and used an anti-fatigue mat to reduce pressure on my lower body and hips.

3. How This Helped My Neck Pain

Reducing the time I spent sitting eased the spinal compression that was causing my neck pain. By standing more and sitting less, I relieved the pressure on my spine, which greatly alleviated my discomfort.
