HouseCall: Supermarket Disorder, Reacted vs. Elemental, Histamines & Hormones, Coke Zero vs. Wine, Antibiotics & Gut Protection, Sleep Paralysis
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!
I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks…
Let’s get started!
Sierra: Hi Dr. Cabral! For awhile now I have been experiencing dizziness and light headedness when walking around inside certain stores, however once I leave the store I feel better. I’ve read about it being a vestibular disorder and this condition being recognized as “supermarket disorder” or “visual vestibular mismatch”. Although it affects me the most when I’m inside stores, it also affects me when I play certain video games as well, or when I’m around a lot of people. This affects me 50% or more of the time. My question is, do you have any recommendations that may be able to help subdue the affects of this condition? Thank you!
Kelsey: Hello! I am wondering if you can clarify the difference between a “Reacted” supplement versus an “Elemental.” I work at a place that sells practitioner grade supplements and my boss asked me if I knew the answer to that. I did not, but I thought of someone who would be better able to clarify! 🙂 You, of course! Thank you for your help!
Anonymous: Is it possible for an overload of histamine to affect female hormones and cause estrogen dominance as a secondary effect? I am asking because we recently had “oakpocalypse” here in Houston (tree pollen above 12,000, which was double the previous all-time high record), and I was having symptoms of high histamine, but I also started having some symptoms of estrogen dominance (no other life or dietary changes in that time period other than the extreme allergen exposure) – when I googled this quickly, I found some articles off the bat that suggested histamine could increase estrogen, so I wanted to hear your expertise and any recommendations for what someone should do if this happens (other than your standard allergy advice ex. Vit. C, quercetin, bromelain, preventing allergens from entering home, Nettie pot, etc.)
Karim: What would you say is worse, Coke Zero or glass of wine? Hahaha. Sorry if it sounds silly but I’m just interested in your point of view.
Marnie: Hi Dr Cabral-I will be having an Inspire implant placed for sleep apnea. I will be having antibiotics perioperatively and postoperative. What must I do to protect my microbiome? Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. You are a Godsend!
Jordan: Hey Cabral! This is kind of an odd question. I have been having extremely frequent sleep paralysis and muscle numbness ever since I got covid. I know I am not alone in this as I know someone else that has been going through this as well. I have seen that there is now new research seeing a correlation between the two. I’m just wondering if you have any suggestions regarding sleep paralysis. Thanks!
