HouseCall: Nicotine, Private Client, Pre-Natal, CBD & Exercise & Epilepsy, Detox While Breastfeeding, Bloating Foods
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!
I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks…
Let’s get started!
Tracy: Hi Dr. Cabral, My partner has started vaping nicotine recently. I’m concerned about this and when we’ve discussed it he’s said that nicotine isn’t bad for you, that it’s the tar in cigarettes that is so damaging to one’s health. I don’t feel comfortable with this answer and would like your opinion on the health benefits and/or detriments of taking in nicotine by vaping. Thanks so much for all that you do. I love your podcasts and find them so helpful. Tracy
Jenine: HI! I’m feel very spiritually compelled to work with Dr. Cabral, and I am really hoping you guys can work with me! In January, 2017 at 38 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer with mets to liver, lungs, and lots of lymph nodes. It was a shocking diagnosis to say the least….I only had symptoms a couple of months leading up to the diagnosis. I underwent a over a year and a half of chemotherapy and worked with a functional doctor. I juiced and became a vegan and my cancer did not show any tumors on the scans for about 6 months. The tumors showed up once again last November, and after more chemotherapy until this past spring, we decided to do clinical trial immunotherapy in June. Although still better than chemo in terms of side effects, I began to have many autoimmune-related responses…with colitis being my main issue, but also temporary arthritis and secondary adrenal disease from long-term use of prednisone. I’ve had a blockage this past summer from colitis and was hospitalized multiple times for dehydration, and adrenal disease (the worst). After all this my latest scan showed a very small growth (width of my thumb) of another tumor in my liver. So now I was taken off the trial. There are other trials and an oral chemo that I will have to look into, but right now I am still suffering from colitis and adrenal disease so until I am off the prednisone, I cannot do treatment….I also need to heal so it’s ok! I tried to wean off prednisone from 60mg to 40mg last week and was sick with diarrhea and stomach pain for 2 days. It has resolved itself since as I went back on 60mg for the last week. This morning I tried to wean again, and took 50mg, I will do that for 3 days and see if I can tolerate. My main objective is to support my body as naturally as possible as I am going through this. I also need a better way to support my body suffering with cancer of course and these autoimmune issues I’m getting! I am no longer a vegan as with colitis it was not possible to eat so plant based with the roughage…..I needed the protein as well. I do try to eat as healthy as possible, and do not eat red meat. I eat fish once a week and eggs 3-4 times a week. I eat a lot of rice and cooked vegetables, smoothies, etc. I have been indulging more than usual because of the state of my colitis and how awful I’ve been feeling, but I really need to be 100% on track again. I’ve looked into Ayurveda a few times, and have even done a 3 day cleanse with mung dal, but it’s a little more complicated than I would like right now with all I am going through. The practitioner I went to wasn’t great, and I don’t think she was confident enough to help me with Ayurveda. I need some specific testing done, and a streamlined Ayurvedic approach to what I am going through right now, and I’m hoping you guys can help with that. I would love to speak and see Dr. Cabral. I know he has a waiting list, but I will get on if I need to. Or is there another way? I live in Northern, NJ so I can go to Boston. I am willing to do anything and believe the body can heal. Can you help me?
Kristina: Dear Dr. Cabral, I have always been a health and fitness enthusiast so dealing with a sudden medical issue was a shock to me. I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks and we were over the moon with excitement. At 7 weeks I started bleeding and it was dismissed as a miscarriage. After pressing several doctors for an ultrasound finally one agreed. They discovered a 3.1cm mass in my right fallopian tube – it was an ectopic pregnancy. We were devastated, but given the option to treat with Methotrexate injections or surgery. I chose Methotrexate, which has been disturbing to say the least just thinking of all the chemicals that are now in my body. I am thankful my tube did not rupture and that I am still alive. Methotrexate strips your body of all folate and can also be damaging to the liver. Folate will reduce the drugs effectiveness so I am on a zero folate diet until my pregnancy levels reach zero. We were told we would need to wait 3 months to repair my body and create a safe place for pregnancy. My question to you is what would you recommend would be the most effective way to cleanse my liver of these toxins and replenish my body with nutrients. Also in what order? (i.e. replenish with nutrients/folate rich foods first then do the cleanse toward the end of our 3 month wait?) Thank you Dr. Cabral!
Colin: Stephen, I wasn’t sure if this was the best avenue to ask you a question, but I figured I’d give it a shot. I was totally blown away by your two hour video with MindPump TV a few weeks ago on YouTube. The things it made me think of which I never have before were a huge eye opener. I really appreciate your approach. My question is this: I have read CBD reduces inflammation. Is this the same type of inflammation that a hard weight training workout induces? The kind that is necessary for muscle growth? Asking because I’m wondering if it would be a negative to use CBD, like taking NSAIDs which hinder the recovery processes from working. Is this logical? I just started using relatively low doses to assist me In getting sleep back on track, but Id hate to be negating all the effort of a hard days work in the gym. Appreciate you taking the time to read this if you can! Thanks so much -Colin
Sonja: My name is Sonja, I’m 33 years old and almost three years ago I was diagnosed with epilepsy. After taking five different anti epileptic drugs during these years and experiencing bad side effects, I’m finally almost completely drug free and take around 100mg CBD daily. The catamenial seizures however remained. After testing my hormones, I knew it was due to low progesterone. I’m supplementing with bio identical progesterone cream and am seizure free since. But all the medication left my hormones unbalanced and I’m feeling not well despite all the natural remedies, herbs and supplements. I’m getting better, anxiety and insomnia are almost gone and so is the hormonal acne. But my T3 is low, I tested my vitamin D and it was 12.56 despite taking 2000IU daily. Now my doctor recommends strongly to run the big 5 lab tests. But before investing, I’d love to know the correct order. Should I stop some supplements before? (I take many; especially for hormone balance) Should I detox before? I hope it’s ok to ask these questions. Kind regards, Sonja
Kristina: Hi Dr. Cabral. You do not recommend a detox while breastfeeding which I understand. What are some ancient traditions that you can share regarding mother’s health during a long term breastfeeding relationship, 2 years and beyond? In many ancient cultures and currently in many cultures around the world, nursing is common for many years. Between long term breastfeeding and multiple pregnancies that resulted in a larger family (we have four beautiful children), I have struggled to remain in robust health. What suggestions could you share for overcoming deficiencies and regaining energy and vitality in this situation? Is there anything special to share from your international studies? Thank you!
Lorraine: am suddenly/ but not a suddenly having serious stomach issues. I have for a long time had discomfort after eating I think- cooked onions mushrooms Brussels sprouts, whey protein. In the last 6 weeks I decided to eat healthy- which includes now eating all that plus… cut sugar and a lot of salt, no eating out. And my gut is brutal! For me and everyone I live with- extreme gas and hard stuck out stomach and just feel bad! I think eating healthy is making me sick. Please help!! Lorraine
