TT: What to Eat When Recovering from a Cold, Flu, or Virus

They say you should starve a fever and feed a cold, but is that really true?

The truth is, it really depends on what your body is telling you in that moment (you never want to force yourself to eat), but there are certain foods that you can do to help you recuperate when you feel a cold or virus coming on.

So on today’s #CabralConcept 2932, I want to share with you what you should eat when recovering from a cold, flu, or virus to help you feel better faster. Enjoy the show, and feel free to share your thoughts!

1. Starve a Fever, Feed a Cold

When you feel a cold or virus coming on, you need to listen to your body for what it needs. If you are not hungry, it might be a good idea to do a small intermittent fast, which gives your body time to rest and doesn’t expend energy on digestion while it is working hard at fighting an illness.

2. BRAT Diet

The BRAT Diet can be helpful when dealing with nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast help to bind up the stool and provide easier-to-digest foods that your body needs while healing.

3. Liquids

Liquids are important for hydration but can also serve other purposes. If you are not hungry, try starting with hot water, sea salt, and lemons/limes. As you begin to desire more calories, you might want to move to green juices, smoothies, or soups. Research shows that chicken soup works to improve neutrophils that the body needs for recovery.
