1. Return to the Breath

Your breathing can determine if your body will enter fight or flight or rest and relax. When you find yourself in a heated argument or situation begin to focus on your breathing. Breathing elicits rest and relaxation and allows you to make calm, thoughtful decisions.   

2. Just Breathe

Breathe in slowly through the nose and gently through the mouth. Breathe in for 3 seconds and out for 5. Do this 10 times.  

3. Portray the Ideal

Understand that no one is perfect but work to take steps towards the ideal. Practice your breathing while listening to the other person’s argument and use that time to understand their side.
