This excellent and seldom used technique can help you break through your toughest plateau…
It’s also great to add into your workout if it’s become stale or a little boring.
Plus, you can use this special method with almost any resistance exercise you’re currently doing.
The technique I’m referring to is a called a “drop set.”
It’s used more in the body building scene, but it also extremely helpful with improving the “tone” and “definition” of your muscles rather than making you bulky.
This is why I use it both with my weight loss and bodybuilding clients.
Today, though, I want to focus on more on the fat burning and toning ways to use it.
What a “drop set” means is that when you finish a set of a particular exercise you immediately “drop down” in weight and continue doing another 10-12 repetitions or so of that same exercise.
Basically, it works by flushing additional blood and lactic acid into the fatigued muscles being forced to continue to work- and you can really feel the burn!
I add this technique into a workout if a client is having a hard time moving up to the next weight for an exercise and is at a plateau. Essentially, I am forcing their muscles to respond to new stimuli even though the exercise remains the same.
I also use it when a client feels a certain body part is lagging behind and needs some additional attention.
Keep in mind though, that this technique isn’t to be used with EVERY exercise in your program or even every workout.
It’s a powerful tool that should be added in when you’ve exhausted your other methods of busting through a particular resistance exercise plateau. The reason I mention this is that by doing drop sets you’ll be “upping” the volume placed on one body part, so in the long run you’ll want to keep things balanced once you bring up that lagging muscle group.
