As a health practitioner, and dad to two young daughters, this makes me quite upset to see
how our governments are allowing polluted water into our homes

However, there may be an even bigger issue.

Our water is not just polluted, but creating free radicals in our body through a process called
“oxidation” and it’s aging us every time we drink it (read on)-

What Is Oxidized Water?

Oxidization refers to the elimination of an electron from an atom. In the body this creates free radicals that can cause inflammation and lead to disease. In water, oxidation (through the use of chlorine and other chemicals) kills bacteria and other pathogens. The good news is that oxidation kills the bacteria, but the bad news is you’re now consuming oxidized water.

To my surprise even natural spring water that has been processed and bottled still has high oxidation levels – even if it’s marketed as “alkaline water.” As I said, I had no idea this was the case until I started testing the water myself with an oxidation testing tool called an ORP meter that I will share with you in a second. It turns out, there were only 2 non-oxidized forms of all the water I tested, which I also share in a video below.

Your body parts are comprised of 75-85% water.

Even your blood is a full 50% water.

Our Water Is Dead & Why That Matters

I believe natural spring water flowing from a stream is the very best nature has to offer. However, by the time it’s bottled and shipped to you it’s already dead. It’s been mostly likely heated, stored in plastic, and it is oxidized which means it’s creating free radicals (inflammation) in your body when you consume it. I was doing this for years as well.

Plus, dead water that has a low potential hydrogen (pH) level is more difficult for your cells to absorb. High ORP vs. Negative ORP Water

As you may have seen in the video above, ORP stands for “oxidation reduction potential.” It can be used to measure and determine the oxidizing or reducing potential of a water sample. If you have a swimming pool, you want a relatively high ORP in order to kill any bacteria or contaminants in the water. This is why many people add chlorine to their pools and why cities add that toxic chemical to your tap water. It lowers the pH of the water and creates free radicals in your body when you consume it. No city or pool company is going to share that with you, but it’s not good for human consumption…

Now, if you want to create a high anti-oxidant water by infusing it with all natural additional hydrogen (water is made up of H2O which is hydrogen and oxygen) you increase its antioxidants and remove the oxidation that ages the body and can create inflammation. Many of hydrogen water’s health benefits and the scientific studies behind them are from an antiinflammatory stand point.

Alkaline Water vs. Molecular Hydrogen Water

Now that you know what ORP stands for it’s important to understand that a hydrogen water ionizer is not just a machine that makes your water alkaline. Alkaline water is H2O with more than a pH of 7.0, but it may not consist of very much dissolved molecular hydrogen. Alkaline water can easily be created by simply adding alkaline minerals such as calcium, magnesium or sodium to any water. The minerals in alkaline water helps to improve absorption, but it does not necessarily act as a way to boost antioxidants or balance healthy levels of inflammation in your body.

On the other hand, hydrogen water means H2O with free hydrogen molecules in it to act as antioxidants to scavenge damaging reactive oxygen species (ROS) in your body. This means it can help with an array of health imbalances where inflammation may be causing your skin, joint, recovery, aging, or health issues. In an ideal world, we would be consuming a reasonable pH water of around 7.5-9.5 (moderately alkaline away from meals) and that water would contain enough hydrogen molecules to create an anti-oxidant effect in your body to promote systemic health.

How Regular Water Ages You from the Inside Out

So we know that high ORP water (basically all water not gathered directly from a spring or with antioxidants added to it) creates free radicals and oxidizes you. It does this when you consume the water and it is digested into your bloodstream where the free radicals (missing an electron) create inflammation and cellular destruction.

This process continues on creating more inflammation, pain, immune cell stimulation, and a drain on your energy. And on the outside, essentially what happens is that through the process of oxidation you begin to “rust” from the inside out and it begins to show up as wrinkles, thinning hair, skin spots, and a duller look to your skin (all the signs of accelerated aging).

The best way to combat that is to consume antioxidants (anti-oxidants) which provide the missing electrons, called negative ions, that reduce and remove the free radicals. This enables you to age slower, balance healthy levels of inflammation, and improve your energy. The Science that Changed My Mind on Hydrogen Water

I’d heard about “alkaline water machines” since around year 2000 when I started working full time in the nutrition and fitness industry. Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Properties: Hydrogen-rich water (HRW) has been recognized for its antioxidant properties, which can neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, and its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects. These properties have been explored in the context of exercise capacity, liver function, cardiovascular disease, mental health, COVID-19, oxidative stress, and anti-aging research. Exercise Performance and Muscle Health: In a study, drinking two liters of hydrogen water daily for two weeks improved the energy and reduced exhaustion of cyclists during sprints.
