If a friend were to recommend you drink down 36 grams of sugar when you woke up every morning you would probably tell them they’re crazy!
That’s certainly no way to keep the weight off or stay healthy…
Yet, that’s the diet choice most people start their day with.
Don’t believe me?
Let me share something with you that every food manufacturer and marketer would love me to keep quiet about.
That orange juice or other fruit juice you’re consuming each morning is nothing more than a tall glass of sugar.
Let me explain:
Drinking your average 12 oz. glass of orange juice has 36 grams of sugar (natural fructose and possibly sweeteners added).
That means when you’re drinking that glass of OJ you’re really consuming as much sugar as 9 teaspoons of table sugar.
(Note: this same rule applies to apple juice and most other fruit juices)
Did you really intend to ingest that much sugar to start your day?
Now here’s where it gets even more interesting…
A real orange has fiber to slow the digestion of some of that fructose and other carbohydrates. A glass of OJ, however, is just straight sugar.
Plus, we haven’t even touched on the nutritional element yet…
A real orange is loaded with antioxidants, vitamin c, live enzymes, and many other powerful vitamins and minerals.
But, unlike a real orange from nature, store bought OJ has been beaten up into a unrecognizable former version of itself.
Here’s what I mean:
In order for the orange juice to be sold in a store it goes through a pasteurization, heating, and preserving process.
Hence the word “processed food.”
Granted some foods are more processed than others, but orange juice is not an exception to the rule.
It is a processed food.
It has been heated in order to preserve it by destroying the active enzymes in the fruit. If the manufacturer didn’t do this by the time you got your carton of OJ it would be rotten.
This is an important point since even if some of the vitamins and minerals survive the heating process it’s the enzymes job to help you break down and assimilate the nutrients in the first place…
As I just briefly mentioned, the heating process also torches many of the essential vitamins and minerals from the orange. And, if they’re gone too, what’s the point of drinking fruit juice?
I suspect most people drink juice every morning because they grew up drinking it and also because it tastes sweet (36 grams of sugar sweet – that’s more than half a can of Coca-Cola!)
Sugar consumption is easily one of the leading causes of obesity, type 2 diabetes, inflammatory based illnesses and many other diseases.
Now, I have one more secret to let you in on…
I was told by an industry insider that most manufacturers ship the fruit juice on non-refrigerated trucks and only put the juice cartons in the refrigerated section when they get to the grocery food store.
(It makes sense since it’s already been heated anyway…)
And the reason they do that?
Studies showed Americans buy more orange juice when they pull it out of the refrigerated section!
I didn’t believe this myself until I traveled to many other countries around the world where all of their fruit juice was kept out in the regular isles.
Obviously, we’ve been “misled” by the big food manufacturing companies again into believing that juice, even when it says “100% real fruit juice,” isn’t really fruit juice…
(If you still don’t believe me, chop up an apple in the morning and leave it on your counter before you take off for work and then tell me what it looks like that evening when you get home. Here’s a hint… it’s going to smell and be brown from the oxidation, and it’s definitely not something you’d want to sink your teeth in to.)
So my healthy recommendation for you is to control your sugar intake, thus reducing your waistline, by boycotting packaged fruit juice from your home.
Instead, replace it with that funny little thing I like to call “real fruit” from nature.
If you won’t drink water with lemon when you wake up then have an apple or orange instead in order to rehydrate your body and get your digestive system going for the day.
Or, if you prefer, you can even press, juice, or squeeze that orange to make the “real thing!”
(But don’t expect 12 oz. of juice to come out of your average orange – it takes about 6 oranges to make that much juice!)
Once you get used to eating the real thing you’ll wonder why you ever started your day by having a tall glass of sugar…
